Alejandro Vega was born in Chile and started playing as a professional drummer at the age of 16. He toured South America with Enigma, sharing the stage with Leon Gieco and Mercedes Sosa. In 1987, prior to his departure for Australia, Alejandro played for Pope John Paul II at a huge stadium event in Santiago. In August 1987, he migrated to Australia which has been his home ever since. Within two years he was playing primarily with Latin bands and developing his percussion skills while playing in clubs and festivals. Since 1997 he has held clinics around Australia and South America, sharing the stage with such noted performers as Karl Lewis (Savage Garden), John Otto (Limp Bizkit) and Grant Collins among others. In the last five years, he has performed with Jimmy Barnes, Michael Franti, Darryl Cotton and Patrick McMahon. In April, 2002, he was delighted to be asked to fill the percussion position for the reunion of Birtles Shorrock Goble. He is honoured to be playing with musicians he so admires and respects, enjoying the freedom to be able to express his own creativity with the level of musicanship in this band. He has the challenging role of adding integral percussion parts to Little River Band songs that have stood the test of time as well as new material by Birtles Shorrock Goble.
